Control And Management:
Another
major issue supported by ANTODAYA has enabled the poor tribal women
to gain access over their natural resources through bitter struggle.
The tribal women of the area used to be harassed by TDCC (Tribal
Development Cooperative Cooperation of Orissa) for selling the
processed hill brooms as the Government policy restrained
them from doing so. The TDCC wanted the women group to sell their
hill broom at the price fixed by the agency. This was not acceptable
to the dignified movement of tribal women. ANTODAYA guided and
helped them to form independent women's organization through all
these struggles, namely Banashree Mahila Sangathan. The hill broom
produced by the women members had been seized many times without any
notice by TDCC. The otherwise innocent tribal women fought
vehemently and took to demonstrations and rallies. Eventually they
were able to sell their hill brooms at the rate fixed by them. All
these struggles of strong women groups to gain control their natural
resources led the Government to alter policy and issue licenses
through Panchayat. This was an issue based fight of the tribal women
which strengthened their will to become self sufficient and now the
group is engaged in selling of various NTFP products ranging from
hill broom, siali leaf plate, tamarind, Kangu rice, cereals, Amla
etc.
